Step 5 means copy the t-log generated on primary to secondary while you were upgrading the secondary to 2008, and restore it on the secondary with no-recovery.

I got your point and it's true that we can connect to SQL Server 2008 from SSMS of SQL 2005 but we cannot manage it.
But the MS upgrade reference...

I have resolved this issue as below:

Provided the Browser service account Local\NetworkServcie in template.ini (which will exist in the SQL Server setup media)
