I was receciving the same issue when connecting to a sybase server.
What I needed to do was add the server in the DSEDIT interface Driver
start --> Run...

instead of recreating the whole package just recreate that one data flow and see if it works.

Just and FYI if you are doing a insert and its taking 8 hours and you query the table it will return zero rows because it didnt commit the transactions....
