Hi,
I have ran into the same problem with MS SQL 2005 (Standard Edition x86).
I have tested this issue has been fixed in MS SQL 2008 R2 and 2012 too,...

I haven't tried with SQL 2012 yet, however I tried with SQL 2011 Denali and it uses the latest version.
SQL 2008 -> ssms
SQL 2011 -> ssms
Start | Run | ssms...

I would try using SSIS to import the SQL 2000 database.I can't try myself right now, but I would think that's your best bet.
