Try running SQL server performance dashboard and find out which query are taking CPU. Also you have mentioned one CPU but how many cores.

It depends on the state of your secondary DB. Is it in standby state or recovering.

I installed the patch today. It failed installed stating the service could not start in time. But I went ahead and changed the registry setting as per the previous post....
