There is nothing in the SQL Server error log. Is there an upgrade log?

is the second SQL Server in your SQL Server box hosts file? If not add it

One more thing.....
Check your HOSTS file. If your not going directly against an IP address, this can be an issue.
The HOSTS file is found in the WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ directory

SOLVED!
Ok, the issue was just as stated.....there was a process that ran every 5 minutes to do imports. They disabled the error notification because they go tired of seeing the...

Thanks, I am having the application folks check their code again.
But the interesting thing is that it increments by 27 every 6 minutes, even in the middle of the night...
