You cannot have SQL Server 2005 RTM installed side-by-side with a preRTM release of Visual Studio 2005. You will need to clean up the preRTM installs prior to installing...

Also, you can connect to and manage SQL Server 2000 instances with SSMS.

Take a look at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=178160&SiteID=1 - there's information in there about using DAC to connect to the database. Ultimately though the user uninstalled and resinstalled SQL Server.

SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server2005 can co-exist on the same server. However, be sure to install SQL Server 2000 first and then SQL Server 2005.
