Reading further into resolving this on my own. I may have to Unpivot first before Pivoting it. Am I on a right track here?

No I haven't but I was hoping to avoid that as using HIERARCHYID gives me a direct view of the tree without using CTEs due to the topological sorting key...

My point still stands, if SQL is on a non-dedicated server, then setting a sensible max server memory is almost essential
Agreed, that and removing wacko maintenance...
