Try to find with the server manufacturer if there are any issues with that particular system. May be a bios update will solve the problem.

It is possible that your sqldmo.dll is for SQL 7?
May be you can check the dll version or in object browser check if you can see the 2 classes (Backup2, Restore2, etc).

Searching MSDN, i found article Q188769, but quite frankly, doesn´t help me very much... How can i NOT install the performance counters? MSDE doesn´t have many setup options...
