SQL Server uses datafile in parallel and log file in sequential order..

Just as a best practice, for naming convention always try to use .ndf for second, third, etc data files...

you may have to first do edition upgrade to enterprise...

we are not facing any issues... So I believe it should be fine as long as you know what you are doing...
