I can't tell you why (MS would have to do that), but before you can even run the checkdb with "repair option", the database must be in single user mode....

If you move the files to a different location, I believe you will have to do some work to get it to start back up correctly as the file locations...

In short, no. Due to the way that SQL Server and NT both handle file locks, it is not uncommon for such a disparity with open files.

Don't quote me, but I believe it does put some serious locks on the tables. We had soem developers here do that and we could watch the locks line...
