UDBA, I will suggest to rebuild index as well after migration... It will be bad to hear that new server isnt performing better (in case)...

Use a monitoring software like MOM/SCOM/SQLSentry....

Use robocopy for transferring the backup files... Cant really comments on time taken to transfer... depends on your network speed
If you can use a compressed backup , even better...
Try breaking...

Create a trace and filter all keywords (insert/update/dete etc) and log to a table....

Why dont you create restore scripts immediately after backup.... and save for later use... ?

A table can not warn anyone on its own. You can certainly create a SQL job to check for table data and email students regarding preparation.

Some people are plain lucky.... This was a pre production box... I solved this by Reinstalling SQL server 😀
