Yeah those triggers definatly shut you down when they work as I found out with my login trigger! Even locks out the SA login!

Yes, but you have to use dynamic SQL to do it. I posted a sample on here not too long ago how I do it.

The Row_Number is in the right order, but not necessarily the order that the data is returned. For that you still need an order by after the where clause.
