Also just to add for even more info, the major differences between the two are
Dell
Raid Controller: Perc(megaraid)
NOC chipset: Broadcom
CPU: AMD
HP
Raid Controller: LSI (variant)

Yeah, it's painful! Another point of note, the old server (1hr backup) was a Dell 515r and the new server (15hr backup) is a HP DL380 G7.

How could user permissions have anything to do with it? Surely you either have the right permissions or you don't?

NIC settings and firewall are the same.
So a single simple file copy of 150gb takes under 30 minutes on the 1hr server and the same on the 15hr server.

True. What I just don't get is that it's gone from 1 hour when backing up to 1 machine over the network to 15 hours when backing up to another...
