"Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (unkown package id). Please rerun Setup."

  • "Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (unkown package id).  Please rerun Setup."  This is the message which comes up every time I turn on my computer.

I am using an older computer my parents gave me, so I don't know where the disc is to rerun the setup, but I was hoping there was still a way to find my computer's name without it.  I have read a bit on the problem so I know its because I changed the name, and I have to change it back.  I figured if it knows the name has been changed, then the original name (which I cannot remember) must be in the computer somewhere.  Does anyone know how I can find the original name so that I can change it back?

  • Have you ever set up any jobs/maintenance plans?  The name will probably be in msdb under one of the sysjobs... tables.

  • No, I've never set up something like that.  I searched msdb, and found only one thing which I could open which was a notepad called instmsdb.  If you know of any other way I would really appreciate any more help you could give me.
