I think dress impacts employees in many ways. There is generally a reason for most of the dress codes.
If you take a group of boys and dress them in jeans and t-shirts, then take them and put them in Suits the boys act differently. The same applies to adults but mayhaps not quite as visibly. I think if there is a "price" to the dress down days, it helps retain some of the semblance of what the people are supposed to be acting like.

Interesting that you only translated the first half of the phrase, of course that is the only part dealing with clothes as opposed to the mind.

I have seen almost all variations posted before me ("Kiss The Pig" being the notable exception). I haven't seen it affect productivity. Nor have I seen it affect employee satisfaction as I think that it is an indicator how a place may be like rather than something that directly changes a staff's opinion of a place.
