WORD UP!

You do not (per chance) also have Office 2003 installed do you. I know there are issues starting up some of the programs if you do - specifically Word.

Thanks for the response. No... I do have Office 97 installed, though. It's been a while since I've done an upgrade on Office. 😀

Yep, dropped SS2K8 Dev on my desktop. Needs SP1 (for SQL)

Heh... Thanks but I know it works with that... My problem is that I support a lot of folks that still run 2000 and I need SQL Server 2000 DevEd to run on it.

Anyone know for sure if SQL Server 2000 Developer's Edition will run on WIN7?

  • I've not tried it, but I've found anecdotal evidence that SQL 2000 won't work on Server 2008--given that uses the Vista kernel, as does Windows 7, I'd say the chances aren't good. HOWEVER, Windows 7 Ultimate does include virtual machine technology that allows you to run incompatible applications in a Windows XP core--no idea if that would work with SQL!

  • I'm still trying to fix this. My Google search may have found something to fix it but we'll see. Here's the "fix" article I found and have instantiated...

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928091

Once into that rather long winded article, look for the section titled Multiple versions of Word. That's what I've just instantiated and, like I said, we'll see what happens over the next week or so.

It's been a couple of weeks and the fix above seems to have done the trick. Thanks for the help, folks.

I've run Win 7 RC for about 2+ months, and it just worked well for the most part. It was quick, it had some nice UI enhancements, lots of drivers, it just seemed to work well. I had issues with Live Mesh and Acrobat reader, but the more I've talked with people, the more I think I had a bad download or install.

Acrobat reader problems: that's no surprise. I've had issues with that rotten piece of bloatware on every platform I ever installed it on, and finally threw it off all my systems and installed Foxit reader instead. I have never seen a problem with PDF files since, and Foxit opens them in about 5% of the time Acrobat Reader took with them.
