Windows Server 2012

    Hi Thom A
Im not getting pass the errors i included as screen shots. I can't start the laptop as BIOS and use DVD. Any suggestions.

What errors are those? I can see that the images above are from a started up Windows environment. Start-up and Bios is prior to starting the operating system.

You can't run powershell scripts in the Bios. It's purely for configuring the firmware which controls the input and output operations. It's will be a non-graphical menu interface, not command prompt. It'll probably look similar to one of the below images:

  • It seems, however, that you are not familiar with BIOS, command line, or OS installation. Personally I think you would be better seeing a professional (computer repair shop), rather than attempting yourself. You will probably do more harm than good trying to do this yourself at this stage. Messing with the BIOS when you don't know what you're doing can have consequences for your laptop's functionality.

That's Powershell... You've already booted to Windows.

  • Hi Thom A
I manage to find an original Windows 7 installation CD. Got the laptop to boot from CD. It only goes to "Starting Windows" and after a short while i can hear the dvd player/cd-rom stops running. The screen stays in this states even more than one hour. I did a hardware test, all systems seems to be working. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Take the laptop to a computer repair place, or if it's a work laptop to your network admin and ask them to fix it.
Messing around with BIOS and OS installs when you don't know what you're doing has a good chance of turning your laptop into an expensive, non-functional doorstop.

I must say it was not the advice i was expecting. Certainly does not give a person as myself faith in asking for assistance  on these forums. I managed to install windows 7. So my laptop is functional. I would like to upgrade it now to Windows 10, that was originally installed on my device. I suppose i cant ask you for any tips!

These forums aren't really a Windows support forum, almost all the users specialise in SQL Server (it is called SQL Server Central for a reason 😉 ).

Gail has the same point I do though, messing around with the BIOS and OS is not something you want to do if you don't know what you're doing. The reason we're recommending that you see a professional is that we don't want you to break your laptop. One error in amended your Bios can have dire consquences. It's not something any of us here are likely to have full expertise in, and like I said before, the bios is different depending on the Computer you have (Motherboard to be specific).

As for upgrading to Windows 10, there's a lot of if buts or maybes, and this forum really isn't the right place. A professional is going to be able to ask the right questions, face to face, and then do the job (because that is their job). Again, we're SQL Server professions/enthusiasts, not Windows Support. We probably could try and guide you, but (without offence) the installation of Windows Server 2012 was completed incorrectly, and when we were asking questions about the bios, start-up procedure, etc, you didn't know the answers we needed. We don't want to have you diving into further things where the problem could just get worse. A professional will have the laptop in their hands, and know what their doing. They can ask you the basics about the problem, and then just use the laptop to change the settings they need to.

Nope. These are SQL Server forums. If you have questions about SQL Server, you'll find an answer here. However most of us here are SQL professionals, not desktop or server support.
I had a problem with my Windows 10 install this morning. I took it to my network admin after struggling for an hour. He fixed it in 10 minutes.

  • Thank You All for your assistance! I know this is a SQL Server Portal. The reason why i was looking for help on here, is because the specific section i posted in states "all other related issues accept SQL Server".
