I asked for a Server to be provisioned for a SQL Server 2014 machine.
The network came back and said that it would have Windows 2012.
I ask him for 2012 R2.
Finally he said that he did not have an image for R2.
I think that it is a lame reason not to go to R2.
Does anyone have a professional opinion about this?

Hi,
One of the reasons I usually put on the table is, although there are maybe few differences between 2012 and 2012 R2, the support lifecycle on the R2 is obviously longer than the first one. So if we are installing or migrating to a brand new OS and we want to assure Microsoft support for a longer period, the latest version the better.

there are cluster updates between 2012 and 2012 R2, if it's a cluster then definitely 2012 R2
