I didn't look at Blackberry, though I should have. I think BB is on the way down, but I could be wrong. The big thing keeping RIM going is the email integration, and they do that the best. However, as more IT departments look to support Android/etc., I think they'll go down.

As far as making me more productive, accessing and working with email, checking things on the web, getting pictures and notes done when I'm not at my desk are all much easier with the smartphone. I can sync things with my machines, save ideas, etc. in a way that isn't practical with a laptop. It has just made me more efficient at what I do.
Not that it will for you, but it does for me.

For me, the most practical feature of Blackberry are copies of e-mails with reminders of appointments. That way I don't have to sit at a screen to get Outlook pop-up reminders.
