I cannot run Outlooks Business Contact Manager. It says that the SQL Server service is not running. When I try to start the service I get the message:
"Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on Local Computer" Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified.
Can anyone please help me with this?
Thanks,
Alan

What version of SQL Server is it? Can you try to start the service from SQL Server Configuration Tool?

I am using SQL Server 2008 Express. Yes...I have tried starting it from services.msc and from the SQL Server Configuration Manager.

Can you check the Windows Event Logs to see if there are additional details on the error message? Also check to see if the Windows environment PATH variables has the SQL Server install location listed. Not sure, if this will make a difference but am guessing because the service cannot find a file.

This link has specific troubleshooting steps for Business Contact Manager. You may want to check. See if it works and let me know.

I will try checking out the link you suggested and then let you know what happens.
Thank you!

I tried everything that the link you suggested said to do and nothing worked. I even unistalled SQL Server 2008 Express and installed the 2005 version and Service Pack 3 for Windows 7 as it told me to do.
One thing I discovered was when the instructions told me to go to the "Microsoft SQL Server Configuration Manager", click "SQL Server 2005 Services" and then right click on "SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ)" and click "Properties"...there isn't a "SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ)" listed. Only a "SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)" is listed.
Could this be part of the problem? Your help is appreciated.

How did you install Business Contact Manager? I thought it automatically installs and configures SQL Server 2005. You are probably right in that your machine is looking for that SQL Server instance and it doesnt exist.
You could try reinstalling Business Contact Manager and see what happens.

I installed it via download. I will try unistalling it and reinstalling BCM and see what happens. Thanks. I'll report back.

It just occured to me. Do you think you uninstalled SQL Server 2005 express from your machine without uninstalling business contact manager? Business Contact Manager is configured to connect to SQL instance MSSMLBIZ but since it doesnt exist, it wont work.

If you have any valuable data you have saved in the BCM, it should be in MSSmallBusiness.mdf and MSSmallBusiness.ldf files. Make sure you copy it so you can restore it later. Copy these files prior to installing BCM again.
The data and log files should be here in Windows 7.

Yes. I uninstalled SQL Server 2005 Express without installing BCM. Before I unistall BCM and reinstall it, do you recommend something else?

Okay. Now it will not let me install BCM. The error log it referes me to says this:
[1/2/2010 5:05 PM]: BCMHooks PreInstall(): SqlException thrown in DetachV1V2Databases(): A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
[1/2/2010 5:05 PM]: Cannot start service MSSQL$MSSMLBIZ on computer '.'.
[1/2/2010 5:05 PM]: BCMHooks.PostInstall() failed to start SQL Service
Any ideas? Thanks.

Where does the install fail? As part of the BCM install, did you verify if the setup is going to install SQL Server 2005 express edition?
Thanks.
