Windows 2003 SP2 running slow after SQL server 2008 upgrade

  • Hello,

I have upgraded a Windows server 2003 with SP2 that had SQL server 2000 installed to SQL server 2008. After the upgrade SQL server 2008 runs fine but the machine is running extremely slow (2-3 mins to open a window). Checked the RAM usage in task manager and noticed it to be over 1 gig. The system only has 2 gigs. Beside increasing the gig amount does anyone know what else that can be done and is this a common occurance when upgrading from SQL server 2000 to SQL server 2008?

    Thanks,

    JJ

  • 2GB on a DB server is really tight

Try limiting the MAX MEMORY in SSMS 2008 (to 1 GB or less)

or even STOP the SQL Service to see if Windows is back to normal to isolate the cause

Check your pagefile size/growth as well
