WIN2K DATACENTRE

  • Hi All,

Our company is looking for w2k datacentre. The problem is compaq is not having hardware which support 64 CPU's. I am looking for what are the other vendors in the market and which one is the best. My database size is currently 1 TB and is increasing 80 GB every month.

    It's datawarehousing we are implementing....

If you are using datacentre then can you plaese share your views/experiences on these issues......

Any links to the proper details would be great.......

    Thanks in advance

  • You ought to be talking to Microsoft directly about this. As you know, there are very few hardware vendors that can ship Datacenter Server. NEC comes to mind, but who has told you that you need 64 processors?? Perhaps you should look at your database designs and access methods before looking at such a big (and therefore VERY expensive) piece of hardware?

    Just some thoughts,

    Simon, UK

  • I would seriously consider some sort of cluster setup, for a number of reasons, but primarliy you could have multiple smaller (8-16 CPU) servers (if one went down then you still have a functioning system).

Maybe you ahve alrady considered this but I believe the HW cost would also be lower

of course the Data would probably be via some EMC type of setup etc...

  • Do you need a total of 64 processors in a system or do you need a system that uses the Itanium 2 64-bit processors?

If it's the latter, one of the ones that Microsoft has trumpeted on their site is the Unisys ES7000. It uses the Itanium 2, but only has up to 32 processors on board.

  • Thanks Thanks Thanks you all......

    sjcsystems,

Yes we are talking with microsoft but before implementing it we need to test this scnerio for proof of concept. It's our company product Flexcube information centre for datawarehousing.

data tranaformation is ok we can handle that even it increases 10 times like 10 TB database(which we expect to happen in next 4 years)

Main problem is DC that is data cruncher application which took average 20 hours (12 DC total)to process 10 milliion records. We run 2-3 DC parallaly. That is why our run took 5-6 days to finish right now and the user wants one time solutions for this and all this run should never take more than 5-6 days in future. While DC are running it took almost 70% avarage of processing power right now. When data will be 50 million I dont know what will happen?

NEC, I will look into this option.

Money is a concern but they want a one time solution even it costs.

Why we are looking for compaq as right now all other machines are compaq.

    Neil S Hambly:

    Right now it's 8CPU + 8GB ram setup

we do have cluster right now.

I think we could use 8CPU + 8GB ram setup machine for clustering with datacentre.

Money is ok one time investment they could make.

Thanks for this new idea it dosn't come in mind. Is anybody already having w2k datacentre on this 64 bit system?

I a looking for somebody who can really expereinced what is the difference w2k datacentre made.....

    Cheers,

    Prakash
