Hello i have a Windows 2016 Core and SQL 2016 Enterprise installed and i cannot get the remote management of SQL Server Configuration Manager to work.
I have opened ports, disabled firewall, ran C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wbem\mofcomp.exe "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\130\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof" without errors and restarted WMI service and all SQL services and even rebooted several times but i cannot connect.
Error message:
"Cannot connect to WMI Provider. You Do not have permission or the server is Unreachable."
I have even added the domain account to the SQL database if its an authorization issue and added the administrative account with full permissions on the WMI security on every folder and item in the boxed area:
The configuration file of SQL is set to:
INSTALLSHAREDDIR="E:\Microsoft SQL Server"
INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR="E:\Microsoft SQL Server (x86)"
But the .mof file is located in "c$\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\130\Shared"
Is this normal?
Maybe i need to reinstall and not specify the INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR since it have split some directorys?
Any tip is most welcome!
Thanks

I am receiving the same error with Windows 2012. The below link referencing a KB helped with one server but not another.

sunshine-587009 - Friday, June 9, 2017 8:32 AMI am receiving the same error with Windows 2012. The below link referencing a KB helped with one server but not another.
Thanks for posting.
I have now tried this post but with any success https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/configure-wmi-to-show-server-status-in-sql-server-tools
Every post i found about this
is leading to the modcomp string and still no success..
I have tried both these lines:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wbem\mofcomp.exe "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\130\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"
C:\Windows\System32\wbem\mofcomp.exe "c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\130\Shared\sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof"
I have rebuilt my WMI repository by stopping WMI service and deleted the folder %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository and rebooted so the service is recreateing the files and the WMI is up and running.
same error
