Hi All,
I currently have an old server running rinning SBS4.5 and SQL7 and need to move it to a VMware server. This is causing potential problems with a backup solution which is not able to backup SBS so we're looking at the possibilty of vreating a Windwos2008 server on the VMware platform and then re-install SQL7 and the apps.
Does anyone have any experience on this, will it work??
Huge thanks if you canhelp.

Can you not build a VM with the same OS as the old server (hopefully Windows 2000) and install SBS/SQL7 there? You may be able to use VM snapshots for backup needs that do beyond the database backups.

Build a W2008 guest machine and see if SQL7 works. You will be outside of Microsoft support as W2008 never was a supported environment for SQL7, but what does that matter as you are out of support now by merely using SQL7.
You may have more success running SQL7 on W2003. The internal architecture of the OS changed far more between W2003 and W2008 than it did between W2000 and W2003.

:-)Thank you for your posts.
I have managed to include the SBS server in our Comvault Backup solution and it works! So no need to build the Win2008 server just yet. That day is fast approaching though....
Thanks again
