Will reducing max server memory setting need a reboot

  • Hi I inherited one old DB Server which had 98% memory util,

I changed the max server memory to 20 GB FROM the original setting 24 GB and memory util for sqlserver.exe came down to 70%, (otherwise it would have crashed the instance! )

Does it need any reboot ? or is that the correct way to fix this?

    Thanks

No reboot necessary. Other than ensuring there is no other software running that might run in and grab the 4GB you just freed up, you're done.
