  • based on the very detialed question you just gave us :

    Because! :w00t:

  • Well, who else is going to be able to properly asses a junior DBA's skills other than another DBA?

  • Have to agree, who better to evaluate the skills/knowledge of DBA but an experienced DBA? Would you rather a developer (read that as programmer) do the evaluation, or maybe a manager that hasn't touched a database in years?

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "embraces". Did you mean "embarass"? "Embrace" means to hug or contain. "Embarass" means to make some look bad.

  • Sorry! for incorrect spell

My concern is - Embarrassing - "Means to make some look bad"

  • Why and how do you feel that an experienced DBA tried to embarrass you during an interview?

    Specific examples would be benifical.

  • The whole point of an interview is to see what you know. Part of that means asking questions that you may not be able to answer. If you don't know, you don't know. No one knows everything.

One of the reasons that such questions have to be asked is to weed out the people who have exaggerated their skills and the ones that will try to make up answers to stuff they don't know.

  • I guess the embarrassment depends on the difficulty of question?

You can't get away by answering basic questions wrong. Also, depends on the role that you are applying for. I would be pissed as an interviewer if an accidental dba is applying for the role of a 24x7 production support dba for mission critical databases.

But, I may not embarrass the candidate though..n he could still say I embarrassed him..how about that??

    Thanks...

  • Agree with others here..

By the way, was the position an entry level and the Senior DBA grilled as if it's a senior level DBA?

  • A thought I had, what if the DBA interviewer was actually trying to see one or more of the following:

    1) How you handle pressure/adversity

    2) How much training will this candidate need before I leave (planning for succession)

    3) What do you really know

    4) If you don't know, how would you find the answer

  • May I know who is The_SQL_DBA?
