We have a web-app that requires us to ping a cache manager and let it know when a database batch process has completed and data are ready for pickup.
I have never worked with web services before and want to know what the best options are. The vendor who built the cache engine wants to use OLE Automation procedures, but we need to weigh alternatives. For example, there's "Master Data Services", which has a web services component, as well as, the "Web Service Task" within SSIS. What's the difference? Other options?

Can anybody out there share their experiences communicating with a web-app using SOAP or the SSIS Web Service Task? I'm trying to determine the best practice.
I'm not as concerned with the fact that OLE Automation procedures require sysadmin permissions, since it's an internal web server. Anyway, I'll begin playing with SSIS on a DEV server in a week or two to try and figure it out.
