Does anyone know which is the next SQL server version.
Is it worth waiting for a year and skip SQL 2008.
Any links to that would be highly appreciated.

SQL Server 2008 R2 is an incremental release, primarily focused on BI.
The next full version of SQL Server is due out in 2011, but I wouldn't count on it until, at the earliest, December of 2011 and probably not even then.
If you're running SQL Server 2000, I wouldn't suggest you try to skip 2008. If you're running 2005, you probably could skip 2008.

No doubt there are very good reasons to upgrade, but two years into the cycle and only, in theory, 18 months from the next version... waiting can make sense. I'm not. Heck, we're going to start implementing R2 as soon as it comes out, but then we run multiple versions across the enterprise. But I can see how a business might want to hold off if none of the enhancements are of immediate use.

I agree - there might be reasons to wait - then again there might not. I posted the link simply to help Ananda make his/her own decision.
