hi all,
I have downloaded Visual studio 2005 and Sql Server Developer Edition, installed them but the managment studio does not appear anywhere under the sql server directory in the start menu...can I find it anywhere?

In my install I found it at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\SQLwb.exe
must say that it did display when I clicked "Start", then "Programs" expanded programs, as one normally would, and SQL Server Management Studio was displayed. Perhaps searching for the exe might be of assistance to you ... I sure hope so

When you installed, did you check the option for the client tools? It should be checked by default.

First - are you sure you installed developer edition and not express edition? Second, what version of SQL Server did you install? The executable for the management studio has been changed in SQL Server 2008 to ssms.exe.

Also be aware that the SQL Server 2005 install media has separate CDs for the server components and the client tools. If you ran your install from the Server CD you will need to do a further install using the Tools CD to get SSMS.
