I can tell you where it isn't: Right where it's supposed to be on Codeplex at http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/37109. After installing that file, it installs a number of AdventureWorks databases but it does not install AdventureWorks2008! Amazing. Can someone PLEASE tell me where I can get this database? Thank you.

Did you want 2008 or 2008R2?

You should be able to find the report samples, DW samples, 2008, R2, and 2012 versions as well.

Thanks for the replies. Let me clarify: I'm looking for 2008, not 2008R2, just as I specified. Also, I'm posting a message here because, as I mentioned in my post, though I have found a link on CodePlex, installing it did not produce a copy of AdventureWorks2008, so, though I appreciate your help, a link to codeplex obviously doesn't help. I'm looking for someone who positively understands this problem and has a link to something that will result in a working copy of AdventureWorks2008. Thanks, again 🙂

This download works perfectly fine for me
http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/37109#DownloadId=106391
This is the database files for SQL 2008.
How are you determining that the download you used is not the 2008 files?

Sorry that I did not send you the right links but Jason provided you with a good link.
If you need something if you goggle it you will find what you need.
It might take you a couple of attempts but you get it.
Google SQL Server 2008 Sample Databases
OR
Google SQL Server 2008 AdventureWorks2008
OR Something else.

AW2008 is filestream enabled, so if that's what you need, use that. If you want to avoid FS, go R2 or 2010.

I tried Google a million times before finally posting this request for help here, and I'm very happy for those for whom it works. Obviously it's not working for me. Not sure what is meant by "Filestream enabled". I need the database because it is required for a Microsoft example app.

What error are you getting?
What has made you determine that the file you downloaded is not the 2008 database?

No error. the database just isn't there. It's not listed among the databases to install, and it doesn't show up in the list of databases when I open SSMS after installing the download. Other databases get installed (AdventureWorksDW2008, a few of the LT versions...), EXCEPT the one I want and the one that is the namesake of the file!

Thanks for the links on Filestream. I've perused the articles and see nothing about anything I have to do related to Filestream to get the database to install. I'll read up on the articles just as soon as I get a copy of the AdventureWorks2008 on my computer.

So you download the file but what steps do you perform to install?
I seem to remember doing something like this:

Filestream needs to be installed. That was the problem.
