Austin, TX - in nearby Blanco they're brewing up Real Ale, which is some good stuff.

A shout-out to the Aggie. If you're into wine, check out the Messina Hof winery.

Howdy, Sing4you! My husband and I are VIPs at Messina Hof Winery. He says that I should stop telling people that, b/c it makes us sound like winos. 🙂 Wine lovers is the way that I prefer to describe it. 🙂

Wow, how do you get to be a VIP? For all the wine of theirs I buy, I should be a part-owner!! :w00t:

Just visit their website to read about becoming a VIP. Lots of perks for sure. Each year we get a free tour and tasting for 20 people, free personalized labels, discounts on wine and food at Messina Hof and invites to special events. We visit their wine bar on a regular basis - good people, good food and of course - great wine. 🙂

Ok, sing4you... had to let you know that I just got an evite today to a Wine Premier VIP Reception at MH. It starts at 10AM on Nov 13th... looks like I'm having wine for breakfast that day. :hehe: See it's worth being a VIP there.

Sweet. Have a glass of Papa Paulo port for me;-)

  • Boy, this thread's been too quiet lately. Let's stir the pot a bit.

How about . . . neat things to do or places to see where you are?

Again, since I started this, I should chime in.

Within an hour (give or take) of Albany, NY, off the top of my head:

    • New York State Capital
    • New York State Museum
    • Howe Caverns
    • Saratoga Springs (horse racing capital of the world)
    • Lake George
    • Cooperstown (or, as the baseball fan in me calls it, "Mecca")
    • Springfield, MA (home of the basketball HOF)
    • Adirondack, Catskill, and Berkshire mountains (we sit pretty much right in the middle of all three)
    • Hudson River
    • Erie Canal

Edit: came up with a few more to add to the list!

  • Well I rarely leave the small area I live in, but Hidden Mesa is a nice place for me to run, or my wife to ride horses.

  • Let's see...things to do near Omaha.

    1. Go to Denver

    2. Go to Kansas City

    3. Go to Chicago

    4. Go to Minneapolis

Besides that, Omaha has an outstanding Zoo. It is supposed to be the #2 Zoo in the country behind the San Diego Zoo, but I've heard that its better still. We also host the NCAA Baseball College World Series with is a must see for baseball fans. We have a few museums that are well done - Joslyn Art Museum, Durham Western Heritage Museum, Childrens' Museum.

Henry Doorly (sp) Zoo. Beautiful place.

Fontinelle Forest (for hiking)... Lots of huge parks in the area. One starts with an M and has a large lake for sailing. I can't remember the name. Lake Murray? Has a craft shack and trail rides during the summer.

Pacific Union Railroad museum. The Old Market (warehouse area shopping district). SAC museum (don't know if John mentioned that). Yearly Air Show (very loud). I think Springfield still has a soda fountain somewhere. I know the Pacific Union Museum does, or did the last time I visited.
