Where are the MaintenancePlan SSIS packages?

  • I have a maintenance plan on an instance with 3 tasks: backup, cleanup and shrink. The shrink action is executed once a week on sunday. Las sunday this shrink failed with error:

    Error loading a task. The contact information for the task is "Back Up Database Task; Microsoft Corporation; Microsoft SQL Server v9; ? 2004 Microsoft Corporation;

    Now, the Backup Database task has finished correctly, according my job history. WHen I look at the backupfiles of said databases they are up-to-date. I cannot place this message, since it is the Shrink action which failed.

    I searched the Net to find any info on this error and found a few entries on this subject(not many). None of those make any sense in my situation: we're talking about a part of a maintenanceplan, which fails, while the other tasks of the same maintenanceplan are executed correctly.

    I have deleted the shrink task and the rest of the maintenanceplan works fine. Added a new Shrink task and again the same failure with the same message. So I try to connect to the Integration Service of said machine and lo! I get the message there is no service on that machine! Which makes me wonder again: how can a maintenanceplan run on this machine, if there is no Integration Service running?! Looking on the server itself in Services I indeed see no IS running...

    Our server is running with SP2 for SQL2005; I have read that SP3 should solve this problem, but I have read that 1 before and I am sceptic about that claim. Ofcourse nobody knows anything about changes on that machine in the previous week. Since it is a development machine it is not a burning issue, but I am curious for answers for previous questions.

    Any hints?

    Any suggestions on where to look further?

  • MP packages are stored in msdb. You can look on the dbo.sysssispackages table for them.

    Is your development server an instance name on the server? SSIS has trouble finding packages on instance named servers, but you can find and maintain them using SSMS under maintenance plans.

  • Tnx for answering Steve. I had figured out as much about the MSDB database.

    The weird thing is, that this task has executed flawless up until last week. I cannot find any changes, but obviously something has changed.

    I keep looking, any other hints are welcome.
