Hi
I have many SQL2000 databases. I understand that SQL2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft since SQL2K5 & SQL2K8 are out. I also have a few SQL2005 databases.
When should I upgrade all of my existing SQL2000 databases to SQL2K5? Should this be urgent because of lack of support?
thanks

The catch all phrase: It Depends.
If the applications using the databases are 3rd party, you shuld base it on what they currently support. If they are in-house applications, would moving to SQL Server 2005/2008 make sense, are there new features that would enhance the applications?
Back to the third party apps for a moment. We use PeopleSoft, and moving to version 9 of the HR software mandated a move to SQL Server 2005, which then precipated the move of our other applications (they supported SQL Server 2005, but didn't require it).
I would look at each one on a case by case basis.

Hi,
It was the Mainstream support that ended this year; the Extended Support retires in 2013 (see "Microsoft Support Lifecycle", http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&x=14&y=7#Extended%20Support and http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?sort=PN&alpha=sql+server+2000&Filter=FilterNO for the specific dates for SQL Server 2000).
However... I'd say there are lots and lots of other reasons to upgrade but as Lynn already explained, there are some ifs and buts you need to consider.
