I have been googling trying to find out what's next for SQL Server, but I get overwhelmed with articles that are outdated and/or useless. I'm sure there are plenty of articles that cover what i'm asking, I am just having a hard time finding them.
so Microsoft just released SQL Server 2008 R2 and there is a lot of information about the up and coming SQL Azure. Is SQL Azure intended to be the future of SQL Server or just a service microsoft is offering to companies that would prefer to not manage their own storage and backups?
I'm a bit confused and hoping someone could shed some light! 🙂
Thanks!

The next big release of Sql Server is Denali. The CTP version is out. You can search for SQL Server Denali and you will get more details regarding it.

The new version of SQL Server (called "Denali" for now), just went into beta as a CTP. Search for "sql server denali" in Bing or Google and you'll find the news on it.
SQL Azure is a cloud database. It's a partially separate product line.
