what to call the daily reporting server?

  • We have a reporting server which receives data every 15 minutes, we refer to this as our 'live' reporting server

We are introducing a new server which will be receiving data once a day however we dont want to call it the daily reporting server as it may become twice daily or another interval.

So what should we call it?

Best suggestion so far is the historic reporting server. Its ok but I think we can come up with something better.

  • I'd suggest you use whatever your current server naming convention is and stick with it. If that's R2D2PDQ_10 then that's what it is...

Getting too cute with names can lead you down the road of the daily reporting server gets updates more than once a day type of things just as you already expressed. Or you know database daily newsletters that come out weekly or whatnot...

But that's just my $.02, at the end of the day it's your server, call it what you want, just make sure you plan as best you can for future issues.

  • Heh... and whatever you don't, don't put dashes in the name. Use underscores if you must but never dashes. (Well, unless you also have a great amount of love for brackets) 🙂

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Hi, just a suggestion you could call it REPS short for Reporting Server, as long as the name has a meaning to it and is easy to remember.

    🙂
