Forgive me, I am long time SQL 7.0 DBA and now need to upgrade to SQL 2000 to support a canned software system.
I have:
Windows 2003 Server Standard SP1
SQL 2000 Standard
and I would like to install everything (SQL Std, Analysis, and Reporting plus all the service packs)... What order should I do this all in??
Would it be to install?
SQL Server - Database Components (BASE)
SQL Server - Analysis Services (BASE)
Then apply SQL SP3a on:
SQL Server - Database Components
SQL Server - Analysis Services
Then Install:
Reporting Services
Then Apply:
Reporting Services SP2 (just came out)
I just don't know - too many choices... Also because I will be installing it on Windows 2003 - there is the whole - you need to apply SQL SP3a right away because it doesn't support 2003...
Please help,
David (offtheclock)

the order you have is pretty much right. You'd install all the SQL Serve and its components and its SP's first and then install RS followed by RS SP's.

thanks for your help , but just to be sure - I believe that I am left with these options:
1). Server components + analysis & both service packs, then reporting and service packs. Aren't the component and analysis separate installs?
or
2). Server components & service packs, then analysis & service packs, then reporting and service packs
I am worried about installing the service packs multiple times and possibly overriding previous files.

Just a suggestion.. you might be better off starting out with SP4 instead of applying SP3a. Especially on a new install. SP4 includes some security patches that you'de have to otherwise install seperately.

My bad - didn't even know that SP4 was out...
Thanks!
Any thoughts on whether to choose option #1 or #2 ?

Personally, I would choose Door #2 : )
I would install SQL Server and then install SP4 (Database Components)
Then I would install Analysis Services and SP4 (for Analysis Services)
SP4 Just came out today.. I'm downloading it Now!!!!
