What is the impact in renaming an existing database which is participating in Always ON

    Hello,

    I would like to know what is the impact in renaming a database that is currently been set up for Always ON. What would be the availability group status if we need to rename the existing database with a new name.

    The rename will fail.

    You will need to drop the database from the availability group then after renaming it add it back into the availability group. Make sure you go to the secondary server and clean up the old database as it will still be there.

    Over 12yrs in IT and 10yrs happily stuck with SQL.
