Hi all,
I am just a newbie for sql server administration.
I will probably buy a notebook soon. But I need my personal computer to have sql server 2000 on it too. I noticed that windows XP pro operation system cannot install sql server 2000.(server side).
I am thinking about windows 2000 server for it. Can someone give me some suggestions or best system configuration for running sql server software?
Thank you!

Windows XP cannot run SQL Server 2000 Standard or SQL Server 2000 Enterprise. However, it can run SQL Server 2000 Developer edition, which is SQL Server 2000 Enterprise running under a special license that allows you access to all of the Enterprise features without resorting to Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.
What are you attempting to use the SQL Server for? That would go a long way towards helping with the recommendation.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your advise and that's good information to me.
I have premium msdn subscription. It seems that I have two versions of sql server 2000 developer edition(1) and sql server 2000 developer edition -64 bits.(2) could be downloaded.
Do you mean I can install the first one sql server 2000 developer edition server side on windows XP pro? what kind of license you talk about that I need in order to use it on my notebook.
Basically, I need to install sql server 2000 because I need develop asp or asp.net program which need to run against database and sometimes I need to write some store procedure, DTS package etc.
Can you give me more advise?
Thank you.

Hi Betty,
If you have an MSDN subscription and access to the download of SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition, that should be all you need. You'll likely need the first as I'm guessing that you don't have a 64-bit laptop.
