  Is it refers to website or geographical location?

  ex: Data replication is the process where in a relation or portion of a relation is duplicated and those duplicated copies are stored in multiple sites to increase the availability of data.

  Sites means different locations. That can be as far away as servers in different countries, or as close as two servers right next to each other.
