what happens when restarting the sql service without checkpoint

  • Good evening

    ive got a question

as operador in a production system there is a procedure we got to run daily. and the procedure is this in the following order:

    1. execute a job or process that makes checkpoint to all databases

    2. secondly stop and start over the sql service and agent

the question is if someone skips or omits the step 1 and exe step 2. ?

the data will be not consistent ?

ive read some of your useful documents you have posted but ive got to take a thorough course

    ill appreciate your help

    🙂

  • Why the **** do you stop and restart the server daily?

Whatever problem you think you are fixing, I'm 1 000 000% certain there's a better way!

  • its a company procedure weve got to run daily at night for freeing up system resources

    To be blunt, that's stupid.

Look for the cause, don;t fix symptoms.

p.s. if you leave out the checkpoint all that will happen is that the restart may take longer.
