a while back there was a big debate on this forum about whether an SP3 was required for SQL2005. Steve (jones) put a request on msconnect asking for SP3 and a lot of people voted for it. Microsoft announced months back there would be an SP3 but since then nothing.
Interested to know peoples views on this and what they are doing about applying cumulative Updates, especially since security alert MS08-052 came out

I just read on Grant Fritchey's blog that SP3 is close to coming out, http://scarydba.wordpress.com/2008/10/22/sql-server-2005-sp3-2/
I am waiting for it as I am not experiencing any issues with my SQL Server right now.

I got that link from our local Microsoft rep. I'm assuming it's on the RSN schedule (Real Soon Now).

It is on it's way and it is almost done. Can't say more, can't give a date.

Hello,
I think mainly that the Sql Server Team has first worked to produced the Sql Server 2008 and is using the experience from this launch to produce the SP3 for Sql Server 2005 ( maybe with new features coming from the 2008 version, i can dream)

If they did that, what incentive would you have to get SQL 2008?
