What edition of SQL 2008 should be ordered for small business? (3-5 users)?

it all depends on the features you need, database size and expected growth of both database size and user community.

You may want to start by checking supported features... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993%28v=SQL.100%29.aspx

Also not a bad idea to check SS2K8 Small Business server... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794697(v=WS.10).aspx

  • there's a good chance the free SQL Express Edition may suite your needs.

the caveat there is you don't get any of the powerful business tools like SSIS, The ability to create scheduled jobs and automated backups (easily), and of course you don't get Reporting Services either.

I would certainly start with that, and consider upgrading if your data is large (10 gig i believe) or you decide you need any of those Business functions.

Compare features with needs ... and one great feature it is FREE

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.
