What can I do to help my Memory Situation

  • Hi All,

I curently have a pool of servers,

    Windows 2000 Server

    SQL 2000 Enterprise/SQL 2000 Standard on some

    4 x Xenon Cpu's each

    Around 4GB of RAM each.

If I check under task manager, they seem to use 1.7GB max. I would like to increase this, as the servers are not used for anything else apart from being DB servers.

    What can I do ?

Simple straight to the point answers please....

  • You need to look at AWE memory.

    Adventures in AWE

  • With only 4GB of memory, you will not be able to use AWE.  Look at the /3GB switch in the link that David provided.  Keep in mind that this will not work on Windows 2000 Server Standard edition.  You must be on Advanced or Datacenter edition.  Using the /3GB switch will allow SQL Server to access approx. 2.7GB of the 4GB in each server.
