what are the average salary of junior - intermediate level DBA?

  • Im in a job currently thats mainly a support analyst role. I do a bit of DBA work and want to move to a role that does exclusively DBA work. Im paid pretty ok in my current job though and wondering if i would be expected to take a pay cut.

i am on about as much as i can expect to make in this current role, without staying for a few more years and becomming a manager. im wondering if taking a paycut and going for a sql server DBA role might be better long term.

  • If you Bing/Google "average salary", the first results should give you what you're looking for. For example, swz.salary.com, given a job and a Zip code, can tell you what's average in your area of the US (assuming you're in the US). Outside the US, you'll have to use something else, but I'm sure there are resources for most IT-heavy countries/regions.

If you can't find what you need there, then ask recruiting agencies in your area. They'll have up-to-date data on a variety of jobs and experience levels.

  • Generally speaking, whether you take a pay cut or not is based on whether you're in the top 5% of your pay bracket or not.

In addition, moving into a DBA job would depend on your level of DBA experience. If you don't have any DBA ex[erience then you are looking at an entry level DBA job.

Btu then, numbers don't lie, so you should benchmark your current salary to the expected salary of an entry-level or mid-level SQL Server DBA.

Finally, you should focus on what you love doing or what you want to be based on your career plan versus what you expect to get paid because if you really love what you do and you excel at it you will be able to earn in the top bracket of your profession after a while.

  • change for your country.

This query is for DBA, not Junior DBA so you probably would look at the lower end range.
