I always enjoy Joe Chang's work - his blog on SQLBlog.com is a favourite of mine.
The referenced article is a typically thorough and measurement-based analysis; it's also a good summary of a lot of the things he has been blogging about for years. You have to wonder where he finds the time 🙂
While a lot of the themes aren't new, it is an excellent piece of work. If it helps more DBAs understand the limitations of the CBO (particularly why it tends to over-estimate the cost of loop joins in real-world scenarios, and why logical reads are such a poor performance metric) then it is nothing but A Good Thing.
