warning when installing sqlServer2005 dev edition

  • hiya,

    I have installed sqlServer2005 dev edition.

    After Install, the only options available in the ms sqlServer 2005 Ctp are:

    config tools

    -->notification services command prompt

    -->sql config manager

    --> sql server surface area config

    I believe that I should have enterprise manager etc available.

    I think the problem is the result of the warning I received when installing:

    <warning>

    minimum hardware requirement

    <\warning>

    Which is nice and vague.How can I find out what the problem is?

    I went to: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/sysreqs/2005/default.mspx

    and as far as i know, I have met all requirements.Surely, there must be a way to find out WHAT exactly is wrong?

    I’m on winPro.

    Many thanks for any suggestions.

  • In SQL Server 2005, Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer has been replaced by a single application called SQL Server Management Studio. Do you not have this item in you start menu folder called "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP"?

  • hiya Chris.

    No, the only options I have are:

    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP -->configuration tools.

    Then, the configuration tools child options

    -->notification services command prompt

    -->sql config manager

    --> sql server surface area config

    That is all I have.

    I notice in the Add/Remove programs that the following sql2005 progs are present:

    1) sqlServer2005 DTS

    2) sqlServer2005 Express edition CTP (SQLEXPRESS)

    3) sqlServer2005 mobile beta 3 developer tools

    4) sqlServer2005 notification services

    5) sqlServer2005  reporting services

    6) sqlServer2005 Tools Express edition

    Can anyone suggest the best way to diagnose / solve the problem?

    many thanks,

    yogi

  • Aha, then you have not installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition CTP. You have installed the Express Edition, which is the replacement for MSDE (SQL Server 2000 Desktop Edition). Although it does have some graphical tools (more than MSDE has) it does not come with Management Studio. You can either download SQL Express Manager which is a light-weight query editor designed for use with Express Edition, or you could download and install another edition of SQL Server 2005.

  • cheers Chris.

    It was actually a visual studio 2005 issue.(It installs EXPRESS by default, and you actually have to specifically uinstall  EXPRESS before you are able to successfully install all the sql 2005 dev edition components)

    Our friends in Singapore found this out:
