Hi,
We have SQL Sevrer 2005 EEx64 with SP3 on Windows 2003 EE R2 x64 with SP2. I'm getting below VSS error in Event viewer somtimes only.
Event Type:Error
Event Source:VSS
Event Category:None
Event ID:12302
Date:10/2/2009
Time:8:02:16 AM
User:N/A
Computer:SQL1
Description:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: An internal inconsistency was detected in trying to contact shadow copy service writers. Please check to see that the Event Service and Volume Shadow Copy Service are operating properly.
Is this error related to SQL Server? OR Windows?
What exaclty this error means? Is this critical error?
thanks

Volume shadow copy is Windows it is the first operating system to come with the feature when enabled files you delete can be recovered. I don't think that includes SQL Server files, so if you are not system admin for Windows check with your system admin why it is enabled for your SQL Server folder. It is usually enabled for Joe user who can accidentally delete important files.
Kind regards,
Gift Peddie
