Hi,
I'm having a problem with one of our customers.
They are running SQLserver 64 bit on vmware.
I saw that windows and sqlserver see 16Gb of available memmory. But only 8Gb is availabla according to vmware.
Has anyone seen this "behavior" before ?
regards,
Jürgen

which VMWare edition are you using?
where do you see the 8GB assignment?

In my experience with VMware and sql server, the problem is usually in shared disk. So your virtual hard drives are probably not dedicated physical hard drives. You are sharing the physical hard drives with another virtual server. So if your system is heavy on the insert, update, delete and reads, the hard disk is getting hit a lot.
Anyway, I just thought I would throw that out there.

Thanks for the replies
According to the operators of the vmware the memory is set to 8Gb, but that is not what i can see in the windows system.
Before reboot the memory said : not available.
After reboot it says : 16Gb
The operators say there is only 8Gb available (physically).
I was wondering if this could be possible (and vmware is paging ?).
regards,
Jürgen
