I can not seem to get this to work. Currently it has no sp's on it. So I thought that I would just remove it and reinstall. When I go to remove, it asks for a directory. The directory no longer exists. It is looking for the file sqlRun_Sql.msi. I can not seem to find a way to get this msi.
when I try to re-install over it say there is already an instance out there and that I can not install over it. Bootstrap says I need to deinstall first.
So I tried to out smart it by making another instance to get workstation components on there there and it also bails after it installs the engine.
I just want workstation components on this developers machine! Truly any help is appreciated.

Did someone delete the directory while it was installed? That's what it sounds like.
You'll probably end up having to manually edit the registry to get this one to work. I've had to do that on other programs with that problem. Not sure what changes to make for this one.

You'll need to look for what registry keys, etc., are telling Windows that SQL Server was ever installed. As mentioned, I'm not sure which ones those are, it's just something I've had to do with other programs.

I ended up finding this
SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi
I can still not upgrade the developers box but I got studio on it. So it is resolved.
