You should have virus scan to your database server but to exclude scaning MDF and LDF files.

Or you do not have to put any NT shares on the machine, no "active work" on it (i.e. it should not work as a workstation) and of cours heavy and active virus protection on all workstations, mail and internet servers of your networks.

I am a huge supporter of virusscan on a SQL server, just be sure as suggested above that you exclude the database files themselves.
Our virusscan on that server saved us from a sloppy admin that introduced a virus from the email on that box.

thanks all,
I guess excluding database files is the best solution. It's proven impossible to keep PC's clean without an up2date virusscanner online. (current worms in mind ...)

I use norton Antivirus Corporate Edition, and i don't use to scan the MDF, NDF, LDF , TRN and BAK files, and not to scan important Folders.
and also not to scan all (pagefile.sys) files which is the virtual memory files.
also in in File System RealTime Protection page in norton Antivirus Corporate Edition
1- I made to (scan files when) >> [ Modified { scan or created } ] from (Advanced) Button
2- and I made (Nework) in (Drive Types) >> Unchecked
I hope this will help u.
